Ndiraya to temporarily take charge of Warriors

Dynamos coach Tonderai ‘Stanza’ Ndiraya will temporarily take charge of the Zimbabwe national team ahead of the upcoming Cosafa Cup until ZIFA sorts out papers for head coach Zdravko Logarusic.

Ndiraya and Harare City’s Lloyd Chitembwe are assistants to Logarusic in the Warriors technical department but the Croat was denied entry into South Africa yesterday when the team touched down at OR Tambo International Airport for the regional showpiece, because he did not have a valid visa.

Chitembwe on the other hand did not travel because he is blacklisted from entering South Africa due to previous transgressions.

This then leaves the responsibility of preparing the team, to Ndiraya, while ZIFA works flat out to have a visa for Logarusic.

“Meanwhile assistant Coach Tonderai Ndiraya will prepare the team in the absence of Coach
Lloyd Chitembwe who was never pencilled to travel to South Africa as a result of his non authorisation to travel to South Africa,” said ZIFA in a statement.

The Cosafa Cup roars into life in Port Elizabeth tomorrow.

Aluvah misses once in a lifetime Euro adventure by a whisker

Staunch Dynamos and Warriors fan Alvin ‘Aluvah’ Zhakata could have watched the Euro 2020 final live at Wembley this Sunday, had he not missed the invitation email.

Popularly known for his Cape to Cairo adventure by road in 2019, Aluvah was even given a free ticket to watch the AFCON final live, in Egypt by then CAF president Ahmad Ahmad.

He revealed on micro-blogging site Twitter that the he was invited to watch the continental spectacle’s decider in London, but did not see the email as it went straight to the spam folder.

Murwira pulls out of Warriors squad

Dynamos defender Godknows ‘Zizou’ Murwira has pulled out of the Warriors squad for the upcoming Cosafa Cup due to injury.

Murwira was initially drafted into the provisional squad together with colleagues King Nadolo and Shadreck Nyahwa.

Murwira pulled out due to medical grounds.

“Perfect Chikwende, Evans Rusike, & Godknows Murwira miss out on medical grounds,” announced ZIFA via a statement.

The Glamour Boys will still be represented by Nyahwa and Nadolo in the regional showpiece, starting on the 7th of July in Port Elizabeth, South Africa.

Undefeated DeMbare edges Hereantals, opens up 6-point gap

Albert Eonde scored the only goal of the game as undefeated Dynamos edged ten-man Herentals 1-0 in a Chibuku Super Cup match played at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

The Cameroonian finished off brilliantly from an equally well-struck pass from Tinashe Makanda in the 73rd minute, shortly after The Students had been reduced to ten man after Derek Chitsanzara was given his marching orders for a foul on King Nadolo.

As a result, DeMbare opened up a six point gap at the summit of Group 1, with 14 points, six ahead of second-placed Yadah, and seven ahead of third placed city rivals CAPS United.

Coach Tonderai Ndiraya said he the aim was to win and he was happy his charges did so in an evenly-contested match.

“Let me say what’s important was the three points we got today. They threw more numbers forward and importantly is that the boys did well defensively,” he said.

Dynamos starting XI to face Herentals named

Dynamos face Herentals in the Chibuku Super Cup this afternoon at the National Sports Stadium.

The Glamour Boys and The Students played out a goalless draw in the corresponding fixture at the same venue.

DeMbare are undefeated in the tournament and will be looking to continue from where they left when football was temporarily suspended due to Covid-19.

Here is the starting eleven named by the Tonderai Ndiraya-led technical team for this afternoon’s clash, which kicks off at 13:00.

Playing for Dynamos feels like a dream: Chidhobha

Exciting Dynamos winger Tanaka Chidhobha is relishing his dream come true- which is to don the iconic blue and white strip.

Chidhobha (20), is one of the exciting young players unleashed by head coach Tonderai ‘Stanza’ Ndiraya when football returned from the Covid-19 induced break.

He says he is adjusting to ‘a dream come true experience.’

“I’m proud to be part of such a team with young great players like Dynamos. This is my first time playing Premier Soccer League football and playing at a big team like Dynamos is not easy,” he told lifestyle tabloid H-Metro.

“Playing for Dynamos feels like a dream come true for me. It’s an honour to be part of the biggest team in the country and being part of that rich history,” added Chidhobha,”

Chidhobha showed flashes of brilliance when the Glamour Boys drew 0-0 with Herentals in the Chibuku Super Cup and was unlucky not to be on the scoresheet.

He will be looking to do so for the first time when Dembare take on The Students in the return fixture when the competition resumes this week.

Legendary former Dynamos midfield genius George ‘The Mastermind’ Shaya was among the mourners at the late Misheck Chidzambwa’s funeral in Zengeza today.

Scania, as Chidzambwa was fondly-refereed to during his time at DeMbare, died at the age of 66 on Tuesday after battling illness for a long time.

Five-time soccer star of the year Shaya, whose right leg was amputated in 2019, came to pay his last respects.

DeMbare sons mourn one of their own

Legends of Dynamos today joined hundreds of mourners who converged at Misheck Chidzambwa’s house in Zengeza, to pay their respects to the late former Dynamos and Warriors defender.

Chidzambwa died on Thursday at the age of 66 after a long illness.

Among the mourners were legends of the blue and white army including Elvis ‘Chuchu’ Chiweshe, David George, and George ‘The Mastermind’ Shaya.

Also present were Dynamos sons Desmond ‘Gazza’ Maringwa and Norman ‘Lumumba’ Maroto, who were representing the Footballers Union of Zimbabwe (FUZ).

Chidzambwa will be buried at the family’s rural home in Mhondoro, on Monday.

The funeral was also graced by legends of the game like Stanford ‘Stix’ Mutizwa, Carlos Max, Charlie Johns and Brenna Msiska.

Mutizwa described Chidzambwa’s death as a huge loss.

‘Its a very big blow, taking into consideration that he has played football not only at Dynamos but also captained the national team. That alone can alone can tell you how great he was,” said Mutizwa.

”The Dynamos family has lost a legend, this is a huge loss. Dynamos have been robbed of a legend, the same applies for the nation at large,” he added.

25 June: A dark day in the history of Dynamos

The local football fraternity was plunged into mourning today, upon the announcement that legendary former Dynamos coach Misheck ‘Scania’ Chidzambwa had breathed his last.

Sadly, on this very day, 12 months ago, another legend of DeMbare, Biggie Zuze passed away.

The 25th of June, as it turns out to be, is now a dark day in the history of Dynamos.

At a time when the football-loving public ought to be commemorating Zuze’s death, which was sudden and unexpected, it have to deal with another loss, that of our former defender Misheck- brother to our legendary former coach Sunday ‘Mhofu’ Chidzambwa.

Messages of condolences continue to pour in following the loss of Chidzambwa, on a day when Zuze ought to be remembered.
