Herentals Football Club have scoffed at the PSL decision to find them guilty of manipulating their match against Black Rhinos on the 19th of October 2019 and have vowed to exhaust all legal options available to prove their innocence.
The “Students” were found guilty of contravening Order 31.1.3 of the Castle Lager PSL Rules and Regulations. The PSL Disciplinary Committee fined Herentals ZWL300 000. In addition, in line with Article 18(2) of the FIFA Disciplinary Code 2019, the result of the match in question is forfeited.
The fine of ZWL300 000, together with the costs of the hearing, shall be paid by Herentals on or before the 31st January 2020. In the event that the club fails to meet this deadline, the club will be banned from all football-related activities for a period of 10 years
At the same hearing, Herentals official Oliver Chirenga was found guilty of being corrupt, dishonest and unlawful concerning the Herentals-Rhinos match. He was accused of inducing and handing over a bribe to Rhinos official Gift Kamuriwo.
The Disciplinary Committee fined Chirenga ZWL20 000. In addition he is banned from all football-related activities for a period of 10 years starting from the 1st of January 2020. Chirenga shall not be allowed to watch football or be anywhere near any football stadium in Zimbabwe.
Black Rhinos official Kamuriwo was also found guilty of soliciting and receiving a bribe to influence the said match. The Disciplinary Committee banned him from all football-related activities for a period of 3 years starting on the 1st of January 2020. One year of this period is suspended on condition that he pays a fine of ZWL10 000 on or before the 31st of January 2020.
Herentals Secretary General Fainos Madhumbu says they will definitely appeal against the decision. “We are shocked by the judgement. The law of evidence has been rendered useless. We are definitely going to appeal against their decision”
Herentals finished the 2019 season on 41 points, just 1 point above Chapungu, who occupied the fourth and last relegation slot. With the 3 points docked by the PSL, Herentals could eventually sink into Division One with Chapungu possibly getting another dance in the PSL.
This however will be subject to PSL ratification.
